A warm welcome from Raglan Junior School Headmaster Mr R T Prentice, MA(Hons), Dip HE, Cert HE, NPQH:
Welcome to The Raglan Junior School website. We hope you will catch a glimpse of the daily life of our highly successful and popular school.
The fast and sometimes uncertain world in which we live continues to change rapidly. At Raglan, pupils will begin to prepare for, learn about and manage diverse aspects of their lives whilst being guided and encouraged to begin discovering personal strengths and weaknesses. It is our conviction that in order to lead worthwhile and fulfilling lives, our students will require a rich combination of knowledge and understanding, skills, attitudes and crucially, the ability to learn and think independently and critically.
True to the visionary founding principles of the School in 1928, we wish to prepare children to be responsible world citizens. This exciting challenge is articulated in our Vision and Aims statements, harnessing the core values and principles of the School.
We are proud of our interesting history and strong reputation, and continue to maintain a traditional school ethos which serves as our anchor providing identity, pride, stability and a sense of security, allowing us to embrace innovative approaches to learning and teaching so as to best prepare each child for a world which awaits their unique contribution. In our excellent Ofsted inspection of 2008, inspectors commented on the school’s distinctive ‘pervading civilized ethos’.
The Government’s vision in its publication, Every Child Matters, identifies five key outcomes for children in preparation for life. The outcomes are: be healthy, stay safe, enjoy and achieve, make a positive contribution and achieve economic wellbeing. This website will give you an insight, a glimpse into the life of this vibrant School. May it engender your commitment to our aims, core principles, traditional values and cutting-edge approaches, ensuring high standards are maintained in all we do.
Whoever you may be; a parent, a carer, a pupil, a friend, a member of staff, a former pupil, a governor, a neighbour, or even a visitor – your involvement with the School can contribute to its success, diversity and ever-continuing story.
May our motto, ‘Sic Vos Non Vobis’ – ‘Thus do you, not only for yourselves’ ever inspire each of us to give generously of ourselves for the greater good of our Community and this School which is at its heart.
