The House System
The school has a vibrant house system. Each child is allocated a house on entry to the school and if a sibling has already attended Raglan they are usually assigned to the same house.
The system is the social hub of the school. Pupils are encouraged to develop a sense of pride in the achievement of their house. The functions of the house system are manifold and cover pastoral care, friendly rivalry in competition and fundraising. The four houses, in alphabetical order, are:

Jane Austen Novelist
House Colour: Red
An English novelist whose books are notable for their wit, social observation and insights into the lives of early 19th century women. All of Jane Austen's novels were published anonymously.

Nelson Mandela Politician and Liberationist
House Colour: Blue
Mandela led the struggle to replace the apartheid regime of South Africa with a multi-racial democracy. He was imprisoned for 27 years and went on to become his country's first black president.

Pablo Picasso Artist
House Colour: Green
A Spanish painter who is widely acknowledged to be the most important artist of the 20th century. He experimented with a wide range of styles and themes in his long career, most notably inspiring 'Cubism'.

Sir Edward Elgar Composer and Musician
House Colour: Yellow
The works of the English composer Sir Edward Elgar (whose grandson attended Raglan until 2008) ushered in the modern flowering of English music. His work is characterized by brilliant orchestration and impressive craftsmanship. We sing some of his works in school including 'Land of Hope and Glory' and 'Jerusalem'.
